Chapter Six
TWENTY-FOUR
PARTS TO SALVATION
1. THE
HOLY SPIRIT: “The
Spirit gives life; the flesh counts
for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life,”
John 6:63.
2. GOD’S
MERCY: “He saved
us, not because of righteous things
we had done, but
because of his mercy...” Titus 3:5.
3. GOD’S
GRACE: “For the
grace of God that brings
salvation
has appeared to all men...” Titus 2:12
4. God’s
Gift: “For it is by grace you have
been saved,
through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the
gift of God...” Eph 2:8
5. CHRIST
COMING TO THE WORLD: “Christ
Jesus came
into the world to
save sinners...” 1 Tim 1:15.
6. CHRIST’S
LIFE: “...how much more, having been reconciled,
shall we be saved
through his life!” Rom 5:10.
7. CHRIST’S
DEATH: “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless,
Christ died for the ungodly...” Rom
5:6.
8. CHRIST’S
BLOOD: “How much more, then, will the
blood of Christ,
who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God,
cleanse our consciences
from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!” Heb
9:14.
9. CHRIST’S
RESURRECTION: “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was
raised to life for our
justification...” Rom 4:25.
10. THE
WRITTEN WORD: “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his
disciples, which are not recorded in this book.
But these are written
that you may believe that Jesus is
the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may
have life
in his name...” John 20:30-31.
11. PREACHING:
“For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by
the foolishness of preaching to save
them that believe.” 1 Cor 1:21-22 KJV.
12. CALLING:
“Everyone who
calls on the name of the Lord will be
saved.”
Rom 10:13-14.
13. HEARING:
“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can
they believe in the one of whom they have not
heard?
And how can they
hear without someone preaching to
them?” Rom 10:13-14
14. THE
LOVE OF THE TRUTH: “They perish because they refused to
love the truth and so be
saved...” 2 Thess 2:10-11.
15. HOLDING
FIRMLY TO THE GOSPEL: “By this
gospel you are saved, if
you hold firmly to the word I
preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain...” 1 Cor 15:2.
16. CHRIST’S
NAME: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other
name under heaven given to men by
which we must be
saved..." Acts 4:12.
17. WORKING
OUT OUR SALVATION: “Continue to
work out your salvation
with fear and trembling...” Phil 2:12.
18. HOPE:
“For in this hope
we were saved. But hope that is seen
is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?” Rom 8:24.
19. OBEDIENCE:
“...once made perfect, he became the source of eternal
salvation for all who obey Him...”
Heb 5:9.
20. FAITH:
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever
believes in Him
shall not perish but have eternal
life...” John 3:16.
21. REPENTANCE:
“I tell you, no! But unless you
repent,
you too will all perish...” Luke 13:3.
22. CONFESSION:
“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth
that you confess and are saved...”
Rom 10:10-11.
23. BAPTISM:
“Whoever believes and is
baptized will be saved, but whoever
does not believe will be condemned...” Mark 16:16.
24. LIVING
FAITHFUL TO THE POINT OF DEATH: “Be
faithful, even to the point of death,
and I will give
you the crown of life...” Rev 2:10.

FAITHFUL TO THE POINT OF DEATH
The question is not,
“which one of these will save”, but “how shall we escape if we neglect so
great salvation?” (Heb 2:3).
Martin Luther became so
fed up with the legalism in the Catholic Church which demanded that a person
work his way to salvation, that he did what most of us do, he allowed his
pendulum swing to the opposite extreme. Luther declared that works have
nothing to do with salvation. To force his conclusion to harmonize with
repentance, confession and living faithful, he demanded that they were all
rolled up in the word faith. Anything that didn’t fit Luther’s preconceived
ideas were eventually branded as being, “an outward sign of an inward
grace.” It should be noted that this expression is completely man made
and never
found within the covers of the Bible.
After God carefully
listed all the ingredients that blend together to produce salvation, how
could Luther possibly say that we are
justified by faith only? That is a
direct contradiction of God’s word. James 2:24 KJV “Ye see then how that by
works a man is
justified, and
not
by faith only.”
Who gave Luther the
right to go through the Bible cafeteria style, to choose what he wanted and
discard the rest?
Study Guide
Chapter Six
· Place
each part of salvation on a chalk board in random order or place each word
on a separate card. Shuffle the cards and place them back in proper order.
· Look
up each reference.
· Note
who performs each part. Is it God, Jesus, a preacher or the individual being
saved?
· Summarize
in your own words what each part means to you.
· Can
you separate any of these parts from the rest and achieve salvation?
· When
man does his part can we say he earned heaven?
· Where
in the Bible do we learn that baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace?
