CHAPTER EIGHT

THE FALL OF AMERICA

A

t the beginning of the twenty-first century:

VIOLENT CRIME: We now lead the world in violent crime.

DIVORCE: America’s divorce rate is the largest in the world.

TEEN PREGNANCIES: We lead the Western world.

voluntary ABORTION: We are the world’s leader.

ILLEGAL DRUGS: We consume more than any other nation.[1]

In the previous chapter, we noted many of the freedoms that we have lost in the last few years. In 1963 the Bible and prayer were removed from the public schools. In about 1964, secular humanism was recognized as a valid religion by our federal government. In 1973, abortion was legalized. In 1980, creation science was outlawed in Arkansas. Notice some of the horrible calamities that have hit our country after the two decades of the 60’s and 70’s.

POPULATION INCREASED 2.8%: We need to notice that the population of the United States has grown VERY slowly during the last one hundred years. In 1900, the population was 76,094,000.[2] In 1998, the population was only 270,312,000,[3] which shows a yearly growth of only 2.8%. But notice how fast crime and calamities have increased since the Bible was taken from our public schools.

SAT TOTAL SCORES:[33]

Notice how the scores held the average of 969 for over a decade, then after 1963 when the Bible was taken out of the public schools, and the educational achievement of our country plummeted.

Can you imagine working for the following Company? It has a little over 500 employees with the following statistics:

·        19 have been accused of spousal abuse.

·        7 have been arrested for fraud.

·        19 have been accused of writing bad checks.

·        117 have bankrupted at least two businesses.

·        3 have been arrested for assault.

·        71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit.

·        14 have been arrested on drug-related charges.

·        21 are current defendants in lawsuits.

·        In 1998 alone, 84 were stopped for drunk driving. Can you guess which organization this is? This is the 535 members of the U.S. Congress. The same group that perpetually makes hundreds of new laws designed to keep the rest of us in line.[34] Not all our Congressmen are immoral and a word of praise needs to be given to the many who are living Christian lives and voting for moral principles, but we should also be praying that the immoral leaders of our country will be quickly replaced.

GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR  WARNED: “History fails to record a single precedent in which nations subject to moral decay have not passed into political and economic decline. There has been either a spiritual awakening to overcome the moral lapse, or a progressive deterioration leading to ultimate national disaster.[35]
