CHAPTER
ELEVEN
t might be nice to have
a crystal ball and look into the future to see what is going to happen to
our beloved America. On the other hand, it might be a horrifying experience.
How will America end?
·
Perhaps a meteor
will drop from the sky and our world will go up in smoke.
·
Perhaps we will be
overwhelmed by the Chinese who invade our country like locust devours a
field.
·
America’s demise may
be brought about by the explosion of an “H” bomb.
·
In the movie,
“Planet of the Apes,” America is depicted as a destroyed wasteland and the
Statue of Liberty lies half sunk in the muck. Will this be how our country
will end?
·
It has been
suggested that America will simply crumble from within. Our economy will dry
up and, suddenly, we will realize that America is no longer the world leader
but rather a slave to other countries.
·
Others would suggest
that we will fight another civil war that will be even more bloody than the
last one.
·
Many people believe
that America will end with Christ’s return.
Though none of us have
a crystal ball that shows the future, there are some things of which we can
be sure. For instance, we know that “... God is just: He will pay back
trouble to those who trouble you 7 and give relief to you who are
troubled,..” (2 Thess 1:6-7 NIV).
Russia turned her back
on God and they were brought to their knees in an economic disaster. Germany
turned her back on God and was split down the middle as half of the country
became slaves under communism.
Our Civil War claimed
the lives of more of our American citizens than the combination of all of
the other wars we have ever fought. Abraham Lincoln declared that the Civil
War was our punishment for our horrible behavior toward our black brothers.
I think he was exactly correct. I cannot help wondering, however, if God has
some horrible calamity waiting for America. Today in America, we permit
millions of our own innocent citizens to be tortured to death, burnt alive,
torn apart
and their helpless bodies used for experimentation. God help us!
Paul warned, “Be not be
deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows” (Gal 6:7).
Peter warned, “The Lord
is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is
patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to
repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens
will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the
earth and everything in it will be laid bare” (2 Peter 3:9, 10 NIV).
Some wonder why we had
financial prosperity in our nation when we had an immoral President, yet
when we have a President with better morals we have financial difficulties.
The answer is in the lessons we learn from sowing and reaping. We learn that
we always reap what we sow, more than we sow, and later than we sow.
Often, the results of our sowing comes much later than when we sow. The
above mentioned truth is worth repeating. “Be not be deceived: God cannot be
mocked. A man reaps what he sows”.
Years ago, there was a
book written and a movie made to depict the typical way of life in the
South, before the Civil war. Then the war came. The horrors of war left an
indelible mark all across the South. The “normal” things of life were gone -
GONE WITH THE WIND!
Will America wake up one day to this story again? Will we, one day, wake up
to find that some of our closest friends have been killed because of their
belief in God? Will we witness our children being raped and tortured just
because they are Christians? What will happen to America?
