CHAPTER TWENTY TWO
RECENT HISTORY
“The LORD
will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands
of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you
will always be at the top, never at the bottom,” Deuteronomy 28:13-14.
RUSSIA:
Russia was a godless
nation for many years and made achievements in only one field, her military.
Russia had a great military, only because she constantly robbed her people
in every conceivable way and then squandered the spoils on her hideous war
machines. America was so afraid of Russia that many were marching in our
streets pleading with our national leaders to surrender our military
superiority to appease the Communists. Isn’t it interesting that godless
Russia knelt before Christian America, and we didn’t even have to fire a
bullet?
DESERT STORM:
Under George Bush #41,
America fought and won a fantastic war with Iraq. This was one of the
greatest victories in modern history.
In 1988, the Iraqis
used chemical weapons and massive artillery bombardments on their neighbor,
Iran, and gained 500 miles of territory.
On August 2, 1990,
Saddam Hussein had a large Air force, 5,500 tanks, and a large stock pile of
chemical weapons along with experience in using them. He placed 400,000 men
on the front line, and had a million-man army, the fourth largest army in
the world. Coalition forces eventually numbered just over 500,000. Many
people predicted the war of Armageddon.99

Saddam Hussein said,
“We’re taking Kuwait because god is with us. If the United States comes

We started bombing on January 17, 1991.
The Sunday following the start of the bombing, we had the highest attendance
in the churches in America that the United States had ever experienced.103

Soldiers were told that they were not allowed to bring Bibles or crosses
into Saudi Arabia because they might offend the Saudis but they camouflaged
their Bibles and sneaked them in.104

Revival broke out and so many troops got religious that the
Pentagon made a special inquiry into the
matter. It was reported that 10,000 men and women were baptized over there.106

On February 23, 1991
Chaplain Thomas MacGregor held his eighty-third worship service with groups
of soldiers and used for his main text, Matthew 10:28 “Do not be afraid of
those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.” That evening MacGregor
read the intelligence report that predicted a 30 to 70 percent casualty rate
for the coalition forces. He was mentally and physically exhausted.
The task force had
received no mail for three weeks, but shortly after dark, a soldier tapped
quietly on his door. The mail was being delivered, but there must be no
lights because the soldiers were within range of the Iraqi artillery.
MacGregor felt of his package of letters and noticed two cassette tapes. He
slipped one into his cassette player and found that it was from his wife and
children. It was a week’s worth of family devotions and prayers. He said,
“Oh how my spirits were lifted as I heard my beloved wife and precious
children raising their voices in prayer, asking the Lord to watch over me
and all the soldiers in my unit!” The second tape was a recorded sermon by
his father entitled, “Our Strong Deliverer,” Isaiah 52:12.
“…for the Lord will go
before you, the God of Israel will be your rear guard.”

The Task Force Ranger
reached its second day’s objective at the close of the first day.
More than 2,000
Iraqi soldiers had
become their prisoners. Not one
member of the Task Force Ranger had been killed. Even beyond that, not one
soldier in all of the nearly 5,000 brigade had received a mortal wound. Air
superiority was soon won, and 116 Iraqi aircrafts fled to Iran where they
were seized.
The
ground assault began on February 24, 1991, and lasted exactly 100 hours. On
day two, heavy wind and rain slowed the forces. Soldiers found the ground
littered with chemical warfare paraphernalia. The wind was blowing 30 to 40
miles per hour toward Baghdad, and therefore, the Iraqi soldiers could not
use their weapons for the wind would have blown the chemicals back in their
faces.108
(108Desert
Storm, Jeffrey Craig Fenholt,

It
was also reported that the wind uncovered the land mines and allowed the
Coalition Forces to avoid them.
On the third day, the
Coalition Forces captured 7,000 more Iraqi soldiers and advanced 180 miles.109

Iraqi soldiers came forward and kissed the hands of our troops and said, “Surely
your God was with you!”110

This war, against the
world’s fourth largest army, was won in just 100 hours.
The war was bathed in
prayers by Christians all over America and from virtually every place on
earth.111 (111The

ENDURING FREEDOM
TV news reported on
March 30, 2003, that Saddam Hussein had just fired his cousin who was in
charge of missile employment because
the missiles were not
hitting the American planes but were coming down in Baghdad.
GOD INTERVENED
At the beginning of the
war, America faced the fourth largest army in the world on unfamiliar soil,
with sandstorms that ate up our equipment. The enemy was well able and
willing to use chemical warfare against our troops. Our soldiers had to
labor in the hot desert sun while wearing the unbearable chemical uniforms.
Predictions were 30 to 70 percent fatalities with as many as 50,000 soldiers
killed. Many thought this was the war of Armageddon. Saddam boasted that we
would swim in our own blood.
Prayer meetings and
revival services broke out all over the Army, and church attendance in
America reached its all time high. God heard our prayers and began to
intervene.
God intervened by
allowing the task force to reach the second day’s objective at the close of
the first day.
God intervened by
allowing our men to capture 2,000 prisoners the first day.
God intervened by
preventing any of the task Force Rangers from being killed on the first day.
God intervened by
causing the Iraqi Air Force to flee to Iran.
God intervened by
allowing America to capture air superiority very quickly.
God intervened by
causing a strong wind to blow north so the Iraqi Army could not use chemical
warfare.
God intervened by
causing the wind to expose the land mines.
God intervened by
allowing the American Army to capture 7,000 Iraqi soldiers.
God intervened by
allowing the American Army to advance 180 miles in only three days.
God intervened by
causing the Iraqi soldiers to kiss the hands of the American soldiers.
God intervened by
showing the Iraqi soldiers that our God was with us.
God intervened by
allowing America to win the war in only 100 hours.
God intervened by
causing Saddam’s missiles to miss our aircraft.
God intervened by
causing Saddam’s missiles to fall back on Baghdad.
Under George Bush No.
43, America fought and won the greatest victory over the most deadly of
enemies in the shortest amount of time with the least number of American
soldiers killed and the least number of innocent civilians killed. God is
still in control.
-----------------------------------
George Washington once
said, “The hand of
Providence
has been so conspicuous in all this, that he must be worse than an infidel,
and more than wicked, that has not gratitude enough to acknowledge his
obligation.”112 (112Mark
A. Beliles & Stephen K. McDowell,
America’s Providential
History, The Providence Foundation,
Charlottesville, VA., Copyright 1989, p.158.)
In the Constitutional
Convention of 1708, Benjamin Franklin said, “In the beginning of the contest
with Britain, when we were aware of danger, we had daily prayers in this
room for Divine protection. Our prayers, Sir, were heard, and they were
graciously answered. All of us who were engaged in the struggle must have
observed frequent instances of superintending
Providence
in our favor... I have lived a long time and the longer I live the more
convincing proofs I see of this truth, ‘God governs in the affairs of men.’
And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it
probable that an empire can rise without His aid?”113
(113Norman
Childs Sr. What
Made America Great? Childs Family
Publications, 2001, pp. 50, 51.)
Abraham Lincoln once
said to his friend, L.E. Chittenden; “That the Almighty does make use of
human agencies, and
directly intervenes
in human affairs, is one of the plainest statements of the Bible.
I have had so many
evidences of His direction, so many instances when I have been controlled by
some other power than my own will,
which I cannot doubt that this power comes from above.”
