COMMON QUESTIONS
Which
came first the Chicken or the egg?
Genesis
1:21 “So God created..., every winged bird according to its kind”. The text
says birds not eggs. Eggs would require a mother but a mother would not
require an egg. Eggs must be turned over twice a day or they would not
hatch. God created birds before eggs.
Was sex the forbidden fruit?
No,
for before they ate of it they were commanded to, "Be fruitful and
increase in number; fill the earth...” Genesis 1:28.
Was
prostitution the first profession?
No.
God put Adam in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it (Genesis
2:15). “The man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and
all the beasts of the field.” (Genesis 2:20) Who would Eve have prostituted
herself with?
Where did Cain get his wife?
He married his sister or niece. Due to the near
perfect health before the flood, incest was not forbidden until after Moses
(Genesis. 20:12). Abraham was married to his half sister.
How could
Cain build a city?
·
Gen 4:17 “Cain was then
building a city, and he named it after his son Enoch.”
·
How could Cain, the first
person born on this earth, find enough people to build a city?
·
By the time Cain was 400
years old he could have had over 100,000 descendants. (TGF pg 29.)
Could God have created other people beside Adam and Eve?
No. “And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she
was the mother of all living.” Genesis 3:20 “In six days the
Lord made the heavens and the earth the sea and all that is
in them” Exodus 20:11. Gen
2:2, “By the seventh day God had finished the work he had
been doing…”
Does the word “replenish” mean that there were
people before Adam?
Genesis 1:28 “And God blessed them, and God said unto them, ‘Be fruitful,
and multiply, and replenish the earth....”’ KJV
“Replenish”
Webster - make full again. Thayer's Greek Lexicon - to fill,
to be full. NIV - "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the
earth. God “plenished” the world with full grown flowers, grass, trees,
birds, fish and animals. Now he says to man, “You ‘plenish’ it one more
time. You fill it with people.”
Where do Cave Men fit into the Bible
picture?
Some people in every century live in caves.
·
The Heidelberg man was
built from the jaw bone that was conceded by many to be quite human.
·
The Nutcracker man was
reported to be 134 million years old but material in the same strata was
shown to be less than 7,000 years old.
·
The Nebraska man was
scientifically built up from one tooth which later was found to be the
tooth of an extinct pig.
·
The Piltdown man was
built from a jawbone which was proven to be from a modern ape.
·
The Peking man was
reported to be 500,000 years old. All evidence has disappeared.
·
Neanderthal man: At the
International Congress of Zoology (1958) Dr. A. J. E. Cave said that his
examination of this famous skeleton, found in France, showed that it is that
of an old man who suffered from arthritis.
·
The Pithecanthropus man’s
skull turned out to be the knee cap of an elephant.
·
The New Guinea man dates
way back to the year 2006 and presently lives in northern Australia.
·
The Cro-Magnon man is one
of the best established fossils. It is at least equal in physique and brain
capacity to modern man ----so what’s the difference?
·
Modern man, this genius
thinks we came from a monkey. Some people talk about the missing link.
Brother, the whole chain is gone!
Is there life
in outer space?
·
Yes!
·
On our space station.
Is there life on other planets?
Gen 6:1, 2 “When men began to
increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, the sons
of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they
married any of them they chose.”
·
Matt 5:9 “Blessed are the
peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.”
·
Rom 8:14 “…because those
who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”
·
Gal 3:26-27 “You are all sons
of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized
into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
·
Strong’s Bible dictionary
defines “son” (1121) as: son, grandson, or subject.
·
Webster defines “subject”
as: a person under the authority of another.
·
The verse could read,
“Men who were under the authority of God married women because of their
beauty.”
·
The implication is that
godly men were more interested in outward beauty than inward purity. “…they
married any of them they chose.”
·
Gen 3:20 “Adam named his
wife Eve, because she would become the mother of all the
living.”
·
If there is life on other
planets it was created at the same time we were (Exodus 20:11, 12).
·
The life on other planets
could not be human (Genesis 3:20).
·
If life exists on other
planets it will stop when life on this earth ends (2 Peter 3:10-12).
·
With regard to more
specific details of life on other planets see Deuteronomy 29:29.
Where is the
center of the universe?
·
The center of the
universe can be considered from various points of view.
·
God is the center with
respect to importance.
·
Science has not yet
learned if there is a certain spot that the universe rotates around.
·
The earth is the center
of the universe with regard to creation since it was created first.
·
With regard to the
importance of the universe, the earth’s people are the most important.
·
With regard to the value
of the stars, the earth is the most important because the stars were
created to give signs etc. for the earth.
Where does the ice age fit into the Bible
story?
·
There was probably no Ice
Age.
·
Consider the effect of
the Genesis flood on the surface of the earth.
·
The whole earth was
covered at one time to a depth of twenty two feet above the top of the
mountains.
·
Think of the softening
effect of the water covering the earth.
·
When the water receded it
moved at a tremendous speed and carried with it billions of tons of debris.
The Genesis flood did most if not all of the land shaping that is
attributed to the Ice Age.
·
At the time of the flood
most of the salt content was diluted from the ocean water.
·
This water would have
quickly frozen on the poles and formed enormous ice caps which in turn
would have kept the earth much colder than it is at the present time.
·
The gradual melting could
have caused the so called “global warming” and would have caused the land
bridges to be covered with water.
·
During the days
immediately following the flood glaciers could have carved some of the
earth’s surfaces.
Why do good
people suffer?
Great
question! It reminds me of a story I once heard about two men walking
through a woods, a big fellow and a little fellow. The little guy looked up
at the big guy and said, “If I were big and strong like you I’d find the
biggest bear in the woods and beat him up.” The big guy looked down on the
little guy and said, “There are a lot of little bears in the woods.” I hope
the pun is obvious. It is quite easy for us to look up at the big God and
tell him how he ought to make sacrifices so no one suffers but it’s a
little harder to look at ourselves and say what sacrifices we are willing
to make so we will cause no one to suffer. Are you willing to give up your
car to make sure that no one ever suffers as a result of it? Many women
will not give up adultery to insure that no innocent child will suffer from
being aborted. Many people will not give up smoking to insure that they and
their families don’t suffer because of it. God does all things right.
How could an all loving God
allow sin and pain?
·
The answer is found in
the study of the Scheme of Redemption.
·
A fair question is: “If
there is no God where did love and sacrifice for others come from?”
·
We don’t see it in the
animal world.
·
By observing everything
around us, including man, everything left to itself slowly and surely gets
worse and worse.
·
The only way to account
for good is by acknowledging God.
Why do good
people suffer?
Satan: Job 1:12, The LORD said to
Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on
the man himself do not lay a finger."
Our Sin: Gen 3:14, So the LORD God
said…, ‘Because you have done this…
“To the woman he said, ‘I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
with pain you will give birth to children.’” Gen 3:16.
“To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate from the tree
about which I commanded you, 'You must not eat of it,' Cursed is the ground
because of you; through painful toil you will eat of it all the days of
your life,’” Gen 3:17.
Other People’s
Sin: Gen 4:8,
Now Cain said to his brother Abel, "Let's go out to the field."
And while they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed
him.
Stupidity: 1 Kings 18:26, 28 Then they
called on the name of Baal from morning till noon. "O Baal, answer
us!" they shouted. But there was no response; no one answered. And
they danced around the altar they had made… So they shouted louder and
slashed themselves with swords and spears, as was their custom, until their
blood flowed.
Punishment: Heb 12:6 "The Lord…
punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
Discipline: Heb 12:6 "The Lord
disciplines those he loves..."
To teach lessons, John 9:1-3: "His disciples
asked him, 'Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born
blind?' 'Neither this man nor his parents sinned,' said Jesus, 'but this
happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.'"
Ex 4:11-12, The
LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute?
Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD?
YOU SHALL NOT MURDER-PUT HIM TO DEATH
YOU SHALL NOT COVET-I AM A JEALOUS GOD
I would like
to know how you would respond to someone who asks why, after giving Moses
the 10 Commandments with one being “thou shalt not murder” and another
being “Thou shalt not covet:, did God command Moses to kill and then later
tells us that he is a jealous God?
The question is
first, how would I respond? My initial thoughts are about sincerity. If the
questioner is sincerely interested in the answers, these are very good
questions. If the questioner is playing games with God, I would warn him
that he is walking a dangerous line. God is bigger than we are. You can’t
win a battle of wits against God.
Generally the
answer to “seemingly” Bible contradictions is found in properly defining
the words.
Ex 20:13 NIV
"You shall not murder.” Strong's Hebrew dictionary:
OT:7523: to dash in pieces, i.e. kill (a human being), especially to murder:
Thayer's Hebrew dictionary: OT:7523 to murder, to slay, to
kill, to assassinate.
Webster’s definition: the unlawful and malicious or premeditated
killing of one human being by another.
Ex 21:14 NIV “If a
man schemes and kills another man deliberately, take him away from
my altar and put him to death.
God did not say
“don’t kill.” He specifically said do not commit murder.
THE DEATH PENALTY
IN THE BIBLE:
In the Mosaic law
the death penalty was inflicted: For murder; For adultery; For incest; For
bestiality; For sodomy; For sexual immorality; For the rape of a betrothed
(engaged) virgin; For perjury; For kidnapping; For the promiscuousness of a
priest's daughter; For witchcraft; For offering human sacrifice; For
striking or cursing one's father or mother; For disobedience to parents;
For stealing; For blasphemy; For desecrating the Sabbath day; For
prophesying falsely, or propagating false doctrines; For sacrificing to
false gods; For refusing to abide by the decision of the court; For treason
and for sedition.
The New Testament
teaches us that the Old Testament is for our example, therefore, when the
New Testament does not amend a teaching from the Old, approved Old
Testament examples can be, and generally should be practiced today.
Why, after
giving Moses the 10 Commandments with one being “Thou shalt not covet” did
God tell us that he is a jealous God?
Ex 21:17 "You
shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your
neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox
or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."
Ex 20:5 NIV “I, the
LORD your God, am a jealous God.”
The answer to this
question is in careful reading of what God said. God does not covet what
belongs to others but only what belongs to Himself, that others are
stealing from him. Everything belongs to God. The word “covet” simply means
a strong desire for something. We should all covet good, but we should not
have the strong desire to have the good or goods that belong to
someone else.
Do you really
believe that a whale swallowed Jonah?
Yes. Since God
created all things it is no stretch to think he could create a large enough
fish to do the job. The actual word for fish in Matthew 12:40 should be
translated “sea monster.” In other words it might not have been a whale.
The following is a quote: from G. H. Henn, “…the carcass of a whale was
displayed…I…went into its mouth, and found a fair sized room.” The sperm
whale can swallow food 8’ in diameter and 16’ long. James Bartley was
swallowed by a whale, which was soon hulled aboard a whaling ship. When the
whale was cut open Mr. Bartley was taken out unconscious but alive. Three
weeks later he was well enough to take on his duties on the ship but his
skin was bleached a deadly white.
Why don’t you
use the King James translation of the bible?
I do use the KJV. I
am convinced the best commentary on the Bible is many translations. I have,
perhaps, 30 different translations to compare. Our duty as spokesmen for
God is to make His message as clear and easy to understand as possible.
God, through Paul, shows us the importance of speaking clearly in 1 Cor.
14:7-11. It has been said, “There are 500 reasons why we should not use the
King James translation as our primary Bible.” The 500 reasons are 500 words
the KJV uses that we no longer used in America. Archaic words muddy
the water and make it more difficult to understand God’s pure message. The
KJV has gone through many, many revisions. Most American’s could not read
the original KJV. The New Testament was written in the first century in
Greek not King James English.
What
difference does it make if we believe in god or not? If god really is there
he will do what he wants regardless of what we do. If he’s not there we
will die just like everyone else.
I have dedicated
most of my web page (normanchilds.com) to examining the proof of the
existence of God. The pile of evidence is overwhelming-GOD IS THERE!!! Now
about our belief or trust in Him. It is necessary for us to trust God for
the following reasons; He explains where we came from. He shows us
why we are here. He gives us a purpose for living. He gives us hope when
things go wrong. He hears our prayers. He supplies our needs. He assures
us that if we live for Him things will get better for us after we die.
Endangered
species? What is my view?
In my view there is
no such thing as an endangered species.” At the creation God made a certain
number of species or families. In Gen 1:25 NLT, “God made all sorts of wild
animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to Reproduce more of
its own kind.” There is no evolution between these families but
there is an evolution within the families. For instance two original dogs
have produced 200 varieties of dogs. Some of these varieties have become
extinct but the family or species lives on.
Does is not
seem logical, that if we are a product of evolution, we must protect the endangered
species or our whole delicate balance system will be destroyed?
THE DELICATE
BALANCE SYSTEM:
Isn’t it strange
that evolutionist claim that for millions of years, despite insurmountable
odds, evolution has gotten better and better until the complex human being
has evolved then all of a sudden humans have to take into their own hands
the responsibility of preserving the evolution? If evolution between the
species is true than we had better keep our hands off it’s so called
delicate balance. Let it do its own thing. It didn’t require our help to
get this far. We will surely mess it up if we intervene.
