“THE LORD HATES HANDS THAT
SHED INNOCENT BLOOD.”
Proverbs 6:16-17
Exodus 20:13 “Thou shall not kill.”
WHEN DOES LIFE BEGIN?
Let’s explore this question and see where it leads.
At gray hair?
I am beginning now to have a lot of gray hair. Would it be
logical for me to say that a person is not really a person at all, until he
becomes gray? Why not?
At puberty?
Would it be logical to say that a ten year old child is not
really a human being because he can not become a parent? Why not?
At the time that communication skills
are learned? Would it be logical to say that a one
year old child is not really human because he can not talk? Why not?
At birth?
Would it be logical to suggest that since a baby has never breathed air he
is not a real human being? Why?
At 18 weeks
of pregnancy (4 1/2 months) a normal baby was born. This child today is
normal and healthy. How could we possibly say that a baby of 18 week
gestation is anything less than human?
At 16 weeks
(4 months) the Pennsylvania law requires that birth certificates be given.
(This is the earliest that the salt poisoning method of abortion can be
performed.)
At 13 weeks
aborted babies often struggle for life from 2-3 hours.
At 11 weeks
(just over 2 1/2 months) all organs are functioning. From this point the
child swallows, breaths fluid, sucks his thumb, kicks, digests, urinates,
has bowel movements, sleeps, dreams, awakens, tastes, feels pain and heat,
reacts to noise and light and is able to learn. From x-ray and TV cameras,
doctors have observed that if you prick an 11-week baby with a needle, the
baby will recoil in pain. If a beeping sound is made and then the baby is
pricked, and this routine is duplicated a few times, the baby will learn to
recoil at the beep, realizing that pain will soon follow. If the routine is
changed, beep-de-beep then the baby is pricked and with the beep, beep there
is no prick, the baby will quickly learn to recoil with the sound that
precedes the pain and to rest quietly with the sound where there is no pain.
Thus, the baby has some intelligence at 11 weeks. This marvelous baby is at
this time only 2 1/2 inches long. In the Bible David said, “I praise you
because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I
know that full well.” (Ps 139:14).
At 8 weeks
(2 months), if an instrument is laid in the baby’s hand he will grab and
hang on. At 8 weeks an electrocardiograph tracing of the baby’s heart can be
done. Now the baby has fingers, toes, ankles, and knees, however, the baby
is not quite developed in every way. This is the earliest that suction
abortion is usually performed. Nearly all abortions are performed after the
child is fully developed, completely formed.
At 6 weeks
(1 1/2 months), brain waves have been recorded. I would like to make a
comparison between life and death. We do not consider a person to be dead
just because he stops breathing or even if his heart stops beating. Today a
person is only considered dead when he no longer has brain waves. If absence
of brain waves proves an individual to be dead then the presence of brain
waves proves the person to be alive. Again, brain waves can be monitored as
early as the 6th week of pregnancy.
At 4 weeks
(28 days) the baby is 1/4 inch long and the heart starts beating the first
strokes of a pump that will make 3,000 million beats in a life time. The
tiny heart is beating strong enough to be monitored and is pumping its own
separate blood supply. The Bible say, “For the life of a creature is in the
blood...” (Lev 17:11). This then shows that the baby is alive at 4 weeks.
At 3 weeks
(21 days) the baby is one-tenth of an inch long and has a spinal cord,
nervous system, lungs and intestines.
At conception
everything is present that will be there when the individual is fully grown,
the color of hair, length of nose, the height of the body and even the
finger prints. Every detail of the baby is forever established and present
in those cells.
WHERE DO WE DRAW THE LINE BETWEEN
LIFE AND NON LIFE, HUMAN AND NON HUMAN?
If we don’t
draw the line at conception we can draw it any place we want, even to the
point that we are justified in killing all people if they do not have gray
hair.
Ex 21:22-23 “If
men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely
but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the
woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious
injury, you are to take life for life.” God respects the life of the
unborn child to the point that a man is required to forfeit his life if he
causes the unborn to die.
DOES ABORTION CAUSE PAIN TO THE BABY?
Suction
abortion is performed from the 8th to the 12th week of pregnancy. Remember
from the 11th week the baby is extremely sensitive to pain. With this
method, the baby is ripped from its mother’s womb and sucked out by a strong
vacuum tube. Some suction methods chop the baby to pieces before they are
sucked from the womb.
The salt
poisoning method of abortion is performed on the child after the 16th week
of pregnancy. This is five weeks after the baby feels pain and only two
weeks before normal children have been born. With this method, the baby
struggles for at least an hour before he finally dies. Sometimes the baby
dies with terminal convulsions. The salt solution burns away the outer layer
of the baby’s skin. Babies have been born alive after receiving this
treatment.
